Biographical Statement

Barb Licklider is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Director of Project LEA/RN. She received the Ph.D. in Educational Administration in 1986, the M.S. in Educational Administration in 1981 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in zoology in 1974, all from Iowa State University. She recently served as ISU's Faculty Athletics Representative and Director of Education Student Services.

 

With a background as high school and middle school science teacher and coach and middle school and high school principal, she consistently works to connect theory to practice in learning and leadership. Recipient of numerous teaching awards throughout her professional career leading learners at many levels, Dr. Licklider's research specialty is faculty development, especially in the realm of helping practicing educators and leaders learn more about learning and changing their professional practices to enhance the learning and effectiveness of individuals and groups. Dr. Licklider has conducted staff development for and assisted hundreds of Iowa K-12 teachers with enhancing their teaching skills to promote student learning. She has developed an interactive model for individual and organizational learning to promote change which is dependent upon faculty collaboration. She and her team are conducting research on the model within the successful Project LEA/RN™ program at Iowa State University and Kansas State University.

 

Dr. Licklider is author or co-author of refereed publications in journals and books including the Journal of Organization, Staff and Faculty Development, National Association of Secondary School Principals Bulletin, and yearbook of the national Council of Professors of Educational Administration. She has presented or co-presented her research results at many national conferences including ASHE, UCEA, AERA, NASSP and League for Innovation in Community Colleges. She works collaboratively with colleagues across the university on numerous major grants and contracts. With her expertise in college teaching, student learning, and leadership practices, Dr. Licklider's major professional contributions are the many on-going workshops and learning opportunities she leads for secondary and post-secondary educators nation-wide.
