OLHRD Program Overview

Beginning in the fall of 1999, Iowa State University will offer a Master's of Education (non-thesis) and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Organizational Learning and Human Resource Development (HRD). The Organizational Learning and HRD emphasis is designed to provide master's and doctoral students with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for leadership roles in organizations as well as the field of HRD. The program focuses on the three professional practice domains of the field of HRD: organizational learning, performance, and change.

The master's and doctoral programs help graduate students develop basic and advanced knowledge of:

  • adult, group, and organizational learning,
  • performance management systems and improvement strategies,
  • performance and HRD consulting,
  • transfer of learning techniques,
  • strategic planning and project management,
  • leadership theories,
  • evaluation techniques,
  • conceptualization, organization, management, and leadership of HRD functions
  • organizational change and improvement strategies.

One additional feature of our master's and doctoral programs is that classes will be offered every semester at the Des Moines Area Community College - Ankeny Campus. Consequently, you may complete a majority of your program in the greater Des Moines area.
