Online Research and Evaluation Courses
Below is a list of our ResEv courses that are offered online, and the semesters they are usually offered. When registering, register for sections labeled 'XW' or 'XV'.
Some courses are offered synchronously. Students log in during class time each week to view the live lecture via a web browser and Adobe Connect, ask the instructor questions via their headsets, and listen to other students' comments and questions. These class sessions are recorded and are available for viewing when students miss class for personal or professional reasons.
Others are offered asynchronously. In these courses, students are generally free to log in to class whenever they choose. Students are expected to participate in on-going course discussion, submit presentations for class review, and work in "learning teams" for some group assignments. Although these courses do not generally require students to be working at the same time, they do follow a course outline with particular learning modules with real deadlines. These are not go-at-your-own-pace correspondence courses, but rather carefully designed online learning environments rich with interaction between students and with the instructor.
Hybrid courses rely on both synchronous and asynchronous technologies for student learning. Students will be expected to participate online similar to our synchronous courses, or perhaps in person, on an adjusted schedule. A course website (e.g., WebCT) serves as another primary learning environment where students and instructor interact similarly to the asynchronous courses.
